This space for community life is the major sports investment project for 2022-2023. It will serve the rugby club and sports associations.

It is with the plans for the future sports hall of the Saint-Exupéry complex that Maxime Couston, first deputy and elected to the associations, arrived this Monday morning at the Saint-Exupéry stadium. This future hall is presented as the major sports investment project for the years 2022 and 2023. If this hall will be used above all by the Rugby club Bagnols-Marcoule, the main user of the Saint-Exupéry stadium, the elected official specified that it would be open to sports associations in the city.

We thought of it as a space for community life as an extension of the grandstand, explains Maxime Couston. There will be a reception, a kitchen, toilets and a space of 110 m2 for festive times. We know that rugby organizes receptions after each match, but it will also be possible for other associations to use this space by booking with the municipal services.

The project, presented a few years ago, has been delayed, but the plans are now complete, and work should begin in September. “It takes between 8 months and 1 year. We can already announce that for the 2023-2024 season, the RCBM will have a new clubhouse“, specifies Maxime Couston. Cost of the operations: 265,000 €. The town hall finances up to 30% of the project and receives subsidies within the framework of the policy of the city and the Region.

A first step

Sport has an important social and unifying aspect. This new room will allow greater influence and will be the first step in improving the Saint-Exupéry complex.“, continues the elected official. Secondly, the town hall plans to secure the stand, which is too often the victim of damage. The latter should therefore be provided with new security barriers preventing intruders from settling there outside matches. .

The construction of a new clubhouse will lead to the destruction of the current one, also confides Maxime Couston. The slab where the prefabs are installed has been soldA developer will use this space, slightly above the stadium, to build student residences and for young workers. Work should also begin in the fall. Rugby spectators will therefore have to use the main entrance to the Saint -Exupéry to get to the stadium, as was the case before the construction of the current clubhouse in 2000.

The RCBM is the only rugby club in the Rhone Gard which presents teams in all categories, even among the youngest, forward for his part Philippe Berthomieu, elected delegate for town planning and works for the municipality and former leader of the rugby club. The municipality is keen to support him.”
