BROSSARD, QC, May 20, 2022 /CNW/ – Governments of Canada and Quebec are working together to provide Quebecers with access to sustainable and safe facilities that aim to promote the practice of recreational and sports activities in our communities.

Today, the member for Brossard–St. LambertAlexandra Mendès, on behalf of the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, the Honorable Dominic LeBlanc, as well as the Minister for Education and Minister responsible for the Status of Women, Isabelle Charest, announced the allocation of financial assistance of more than $1.9 million for the construction of a new intergenerational refreshment at Victorin Park. For the occasion, they were accompanied by the Mayor of Brossard, Madame Doreen Assaad.

The project involves the construction of an intergenerational refreshment area at Victorin Park to replace the existing obsolete aquatic facilities. The work consists mainly of demolishing the existing facilities, rebuilding a service building, a main pool, a water games area, concrete beaches and developing relaxation areas and landscaping.

To support the realization of this project, the government of Canada invests 992 $958.50 under the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure (VICCR) stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program Canada (PIIC) and the Government of Quebec, 992 $958.50 under the Financial Assistance Program for Recreational and Sports Infrastructure (PAFIRS). This new infrastructure will contribute to the dynamism and development of the Brossard community as well as the region as a whole.

The project announced today is in addition to the 176 recreational and sports infrastructure projects already announced in Quebec in 2021, representing total joint contributions of $294 million.
As part of the Infrastructure Program Investing in Canada (PIIC), the federal government plans to invest more than $7.5 billion in Quebec between 2018 and 2028. The Integrated Bilateral Agreement (IBA) aims to implement the CIIP in Quebec and establish the terms, obligations and commitments of the parties.
The Ministère de l’Éducation is responsible for implementing the Recreational Infrastructure subcomponent of the Community, Culture and Recreational Infrastructure component of the EBI. The Financial Assistance Program for Recreational and Sports Infrastructures (PAFIRS) was set up by the Government of Quebec. By financing projects for the construction, development, renovation, upgrading, expansion or redevelopment of recreational and sports infrastructure, the PAFIRS aims to support the presence of recreational and sports infrastructure in good condition in all regions of Quebec and to increase access to these infrastructures for the population.
The allocation to the PIIC and PAFIRS programs of a residual envelope of $60 million, coming in equal shares from the governments of Canada et du Québec will bring joint investments in recreational infrastructure to $354 million.
As of today, the City of Brossard assumes $4,042,717 in the realization of this project.
