The end of health measures in recent weeks has done a lot of good for the Center for the Improvement of Sports Performance (CAPS) in Dolbeau-Mistassini. The club, which has lost many members in the past two years, will initiate a plan to seek out new members.

“The return to normal does not harm us, that’s for sure. We have always been able to continue our activities, but by limiting ourselves to family bubbles. But in reality, everyone trained a lot individually, it was less fun a lot. It still allowed us to keep a pool of about fifty members, but we lost a lot of them with the pandemic, ”says CAPS president Étienne Bouchard.

He explains that for a few weeks, even a few months, the club has been slowly regaining members, but it has not yet been possible to make up for the losses.

“It does not stress us, we are still doing quite well despite everything. But we would still like to have more members. »

Thus, in the coming months, the CAPS wishes to organize several activities in order to make itself better known to the population.

“For example, we would like to partner with other organizations in the sector to make ourselves known. Currently, our clientele consists mainly of people between the ages of 18 and 60. We would very much like to get more teenagers.”

Étienne Bouchard also believes that if gyms can finally stay open, and the government does not close them in the event of another wave of covid, it will be easier to attract customers.

“There, for two years, we have been opening and closing constantly. People are tired of signing up with the uncertainty that the gym will stay open. If our activities can continue without interruption, I think we can regain confidence at this level. »

What’s this?

The president of CAPS has the impression that the club is perhaps not well known by the population.

“CAPS is a center where we offer weightlifting, powerlifting, powerlifting and crossfit training. The latter is also the most popular component, it is what attracts the most people. »

Étienne Bouchard is confident that next fall, the club will have a solid base and will be able to start renewing its equipment.

“With fewer members, we had less income. If we can raise the membership, we want to quietly renew our equipment. »
