Pour la canicule, Météo-France revoit à la hausse ses températures

WEATHER – We knew it would be hot, even very hot in the next few days. It could be even worse than expected. The temperatures of the heat wave described as “extremely early” by Meteo France have been revised upwards, according to new maps published by the forecasting institute on Tuesday, June 14.

Météo-France predicted temperatures rising to a maximum of 40°C in the south-west and in the Rhône valley between Thursday and Saturday. In fact, the threshold could well be crossed in certain areas: more than 40°C are expected on Friday in a southwestern part, between New Aquitaine and Occitanie.

The mercury will also rise in other regions of France in the days to come. From 35 to 38°C are expected in Auvergne-Rhône Alpes this Wednesday. The heat wave will move towards the Atlantic coast to southern Brittany on Friday with temperatures expected between 35 and 39°C. The north and northeast of the country will suffer a little less from the heat over the period. Locally, 35°C are still expected on Friday.

Temperatures drop on Sunday

“This episode of heat should end on Sunday, thanks to a stormy deterioration which would start on the Atlantic coast and reach the west of the country, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures from the west”, specifies Météo-France which warns of “the orange level thresholds for alertness heat wave (which) could be achieved or even exceeded”.

According to the institute, this heat wave could be “the earliest ever recorded”. It comes after a particularly hot and dry spring which caused drought in the soil over much of France, raising fears for crops and creating conditions conducive to fires.

During this period, the Ministry of Health recommends staying cool, drinking water and avoiding alcohol, eating enough food, closing the shutters during the day and ventilating at night, getting your body wet and avoid sports activities. Also remember to hear from your loved ones.
