Lack of sleep for mothers: hard for the life of a couple…

The lack of sleep of new mothers would affect their relationship as a couple, their quality of life as well as their feeling of happiness, reveals a Quebec survey conducted among 932 mothers.

Indeed, lack of sleep would have a negative or very negative impact on the life of couple, according to nearly four out of five Quebec mothers. Couple life would thus be the aspect most affected by the shortened nights.

This is because continual fatigue leads to impatience, negative emotions and difficulty in considering the other parent’s point of view, sleep experts point out. When they are tired, parents would also tend to believe that their partner sleeps better, which can cause frustration.

In addition, nearly 75% of mothers surveyed believe that short nights reduce their quality of life, affecting their vitality and mental health in particular. More than 50% also indicate a decrease in their feeling of happiness. Mothers who believe that they are the only ones who cannot put their baby to sleep are more affected by the consequences of lack of sleep.

Public resources (guide Living better with our child and prenatal classes in CLSCs) offer little advice on sleep, according to the mothers surveyed. Parents would therefore turn to books, the Internet or specialists (eg doctor, nurse, osteopath).

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

How to react when your child’s team often loses?

Does your child’s sports team often lose? Don’t worry… Kids generally take it well. In addition, defeats are learning opportunities.

According to studies, sports defeats make children think about how to improve. They would also reinforce camaraderie, sportsmanship and the idea that sport is a series of small successes. For example, children learn that defeat does not prevent them from continually improving.

Most adults have something to learn from young athletes who show up to every practice and game with a smile on their face. For them, losing is part of the game. On the other hand, if the parents only bet on winning, the children will think that thefailure is shameful.

If their team doesn’t win a medal or even a game, support your child by focusing on the small successes, like the technical skills they’ve developed, as well as the fact that they’ve made new ones. friends and that he won trust.

After a defeat, don’t analyze your child’s game, criticize his techniques or explain to him what he needs to improve. Instead, tell him you’re proud of him. Also ask him if he had fun, because the most important thing is that he has fun practicing his sport.

SECURITY

Bed contours and reclining seats soon to be banned in the United States

The manufacture and sale of bed skirts and reclined infant seats will soon be banned in the United States, as these items are deemed too dangerous. Their use is linked to the deaths of more than 200 American babies.

The new law, which has just been adopted, will come into force within the next six months. However, parents who have bed skirts or a reclining seat at home are encouraged to stop using them and get rid of them now.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has long recommended against the use of these baby items because of the high risk of suffocation and sudden infant death syndrome. In fact, seats tilted more than 10 degrees can affect babies’ breathing. Bassinet surrounds, whether padded or mesh, increase the risk of a baby suffocating, strangling or getting stuck while sleeping, not to mention the fact that they can be used for climbing and falling from his bed.

To get your baby to sleep safely, lay him on his back on a firm, non-inclined mattress. Do not place soft objects in the bassinet, such as pillows, blankets that are not tucked under the mattress and stuffed animals.
