CED grants $222,023 for the development of outdoor recreational spaces in Papineauville.

Common public spaces are at the heart of communities across the Canada. They attract residents and visitors, and support local businesses and jobs. Across the country, these spaces have seen a significant reduction in use as Canadians take precautions to protect themselves from COVID-19.

Today, Stéphane Lauzon, Member of Parliament for Argenteuil–La Petite-Nation and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Rural Economic Development, on behalf of the Honorable Pascale St OngeMinister of Sports and Minister responsible for CED, announced a non-repayable contribution of $222,023 to the Municipality of Papineauville under the Canadian Community Revitalization Fund (CRCF) for the construction of outdoor sports facilities and the development playgrounds accessible to the public.

This support from CED will allow the community to practice even more sports activities thanks to the construction of a new outdoor skating rink and a tennis court. The community will also be able to benefit from new recreational facilities, including a play structure and a bamboo jungle, as well as an obstacle course and a pétanque area.

The government of Canada recognizes that community spaces are places conducive to social interaction and physical activity. By promoting better access to recreational facilities and programs, we contribute to the well-being of communities, families and individuals across the country. Economic recovery depends, among other things, on the vitality of local communities and their common spaces.

• The CRFC was launched in June 2021. A sum of $500 million over two years is paid to regional development agencies of Canada (ADR), including $107 million to CED to invest in common and inclusive public spaces in Quebec. As public health restrictions ease, the Government of Canada maintains its commitment to invest in common spaces to make them safer, greener and more accessible. This will stimulate local economies, create jobs and improve the quality of life for Canadians. This funding helps communities to:
• adapt community spaces and assets so they can be used safely in accordance with local public health guidelines;
• develop or improve community spaces to encourage Canadians to re-engage and explore their communities and regions.
• The FCRC is implemented as part of the Quebec Economic Development Program (PDEQ) of DEC.
