The time is undoubtedly electrification, the market remains largely dominated by SUVs and CO2 penalties border on the absurd in France. So many implacable realities that sadden sports enthusiasts, who are finding it more and more difficult to find shoes that suit them without going through the second-hand box, which is sometimes very old. But there are still a few reasons to hope and the year 2022 will still see the birth of its share of “real” sports cars..
Coupes and convertibles
The Ferrari 296 GTB

No terribly unknown faces to discover next year in sports coupes. But we will all the same see landing on the road the news Ferrari 296 GTB. Unveiled digitally last summer, the first hybrid V6 berlinetta (830 cumulative hp) in the history of the Prancing Horse has not yet invited us to drive. What we look forward to doing to see the miracles that the wizards of Maranello were able to achieve to make this descendant of the F8 Tributo so formidable on the road.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS

Less powerful and necessarily less efficient, the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS on the other hand promises a mechanical emotion that the Ferrari will not be able to offer. Because at the heart of the Porsche coupe, it is still an atmospheric flat-6 that takes place. A 4-liter 500 hp which will have to be abused before it is electrified for real. Looking forward to the first grips!
The restyled Alpine A110

Even less powerful than the models mentioned above, the Alpine A110 will be entitled to some mechanical evolutions in 2022. Not enough to make it as efficient as the Ferrari or the Porsche, but the Dieppe berlinetta is so enjoyable at the wheel that it doesn’t need anything more. The handful of additional horsepower grafted to the 4-cylinder 1.8 turbo (300 hp) will only embellish a picture only tarnished by a largely perfectible quality of finish.
The new Mercedes SL

the new SL Although it may be a fairly bourgeois 4-seater convertible, it remains the work, in terms of the chassis, of the sports department of Mercedes, a first. The AMG engineers therefore did not hesitate to transform the venerable SL into a high-performance GT by adding a 4.0 biturbo V8 to it with 585 hp and 800 (!) Nm of torque. The German, despite its almost 2 tons, therefore fully deserves its place here.
The Toyota GR86

Simpler and cheaper still, the Toyota GR86 will delight fans of old-fashioned driving. As with the diabolical GR Yaris, whose performance is matched only by the pleasure of driving, the successor to the GT86 was not guaranteed to come to Europe. So let’s thank the Japanese giant which, once again, is reaping the fruits of its efforts to electrify its production for more than 20 years. We had the opportunity to preview this GR86 and its atmospheric 234 hp flat-4 2.4 and believe us, it is worth it!
The facelifted Ford Fiesta ST

Finally, we must not forget the “small” Restyled Ford Fiesta. At the cape of the mid-career, the city-dweller offered herself a little make-up session but has not abandoned its formidable ST version with its bluffing efficiency and 3-cylinders that are so pleasant.
Station wagons and SUVs
The Audi RS3

The Audi RS3 is not the archetype of the wagon, but its 5-seater and its tailgate in the Sportback version are all assets in everyday life. Of course, it is outside of standbys that its 5-cylinder really has the leisure to express itself. Now developing 400 hp, this 2.5 turbo is now an exception in current car production. Singer as rarely engine can be and animating a chassis more agile than before, it alone deserves the detour.
The Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo

Even if the Taycan Sport Turismo is electric and its break silhouette is more reminiscent of a wagon, it remains a Porsche and, as we have seen for ourselveshas no trouble entering this list of sportswomen of 2022. Its performance is mind-blowing, as is its agility. To be enjoyed without moderation if the bank account is well supplied and the charging station installed in the garage.
Ferrari Purosangue SUV

Like the Sport Turismo, the Purosanguewhich we do not yet know, does not have the profile of the sportswoman. But the first Ferrari SUV in history can’t be ranked anywhere else than here. From him, everything remains to be discovered and the appointment is rather taken for the second half of 2022.
