Public transit will be free for young people this summer for the fifth consecutive year.
The MRC de La Matanie is doing it again by offering free public transit to all young people under the age of 18 for the entire summer season.
From June 25 to August 28, young people will be able to travel aboard a bus in the colors of La Matanie without paying a penny. This is the fifth consecutive year that this initiative has been offered. The idea is to publicize public transport, but also to help young people, sports associations and other groups to travel for their activities during the summer.
In addition, the service is gaining popularity with young workers who can move to their jobs at low cost. Moreover, the growing popularity of public transit among workers had motivated the MRC de La Matanie to add a bus to better serve the industrial park.
While the price of gas is reaching unprecedented heights and its vertiginous rise does not seem to run out of steam, the use of public transit is becoming more and more enticing. “We are experiencing a 70% increase in travel. This is partly due to our new active circuit since the end of March but also to an increase in the number of new transport registrations. We have more and more people who use the service on a regular and occasional basis, it’s a great challenge to manage this growth,” explains the transport manager, Vanessa Caron.
To use La Matanie’s public transport, all you have to do is register and reserve your trip the day before noon or on Friday before 2 p.m. for transport the following Monday. The telephone number to remember is 418 566-2001.
