January, the month of good resolutions that do not last long! To lend a hand to anyone who wants to get into the sport, but also to meet the needs of more demanding athletes, Garmin has unveiled new connected watches in the Fenix ​​and Epix ranges.

Series Fenix ​​7 comes in three models of 42 mm (Fenix ​​7S), 47 mm (Fenix ​​7) and 51 mm (Fenix ​​7X, in other words a good big watch that takes up space on the wrist!). Garmin has reworked the design of the bezel and extended the lugs on either side of the case. The main button has been reinforced to prevent early wear, while the button assortment complements the 1.2-inch (240 x 240), 1.3-inch (260 x 260), and 1.4-inch ( 280×280).

Garmin has also taken care of the materials: stainless steel or titanium for the cases, synthetic sapphire to protect the screen on high-end models, which also knows how to capture light to fill the battery. The 7X solar models can push battery life up to 5 weeks in tethered mode and 135 hours with GPS enabled.

One of the big hardware novelties of this new range is the appearance of an LED flashlight on the Fenix ​​7! When the race mode is activated, the light adapts to the athlete’s rhythm with an alternation between white and red. It’s about seeing and being seen, a good idea when running outside at night or in the very early morning.

Garmin obliges, the Fenix ​​7 are particularly gifted with GPS, golf and ski enthusiasts will find maps of their favorite courses and tracks. The usual sensors are there: the heart rate monitor and the pulse oximeter make it possible to measure the energy reserves of the body and to follow the daily trends of biometric and well-being data of the body.

The second generation of the range Epix is more for those looking for a versatile watch suitable for both sports and everyday life. Here too, we find materials such as titanium and synthetic sapphire, in a single 47 mm format. The AMOLED screen is 1.3 inches (454 x 454) and the battery life lasts up to 21 days in energy saving mode (42 hours with GPS).

These two new ranges offer a new Stamina function which allows the user to follow their level of endurance during physical activity. In essence, it’s about avoiding the wall of too much effort at the start of an exercise. Garmin has developed an algorithm that looks at past activity and determines the best way to manage stress over time.

Garmin demonstrates here that it is always possible to do more for athletes without necessarily integrating new sensors (can’t wait for Apple to realize this). But all of this has a price. The Fenix ​​7 range starts at €699.99, and it goes up to €1,199.99 for a 51mm solar model. As for Epix, count €899.99 for the entry-level, and up to €1,099.99 for the titanium and sapphire version.
