Europe fears Ukraine’s victory over Putin – ex-FM
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Europe was repeatedly led to the idea that in the war against the aggressor, Ukraine should give Russian President Vladimir Putin the opportunity to “save face.”
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in 2014-2019 Pavlo Klimkin in an interview with Radio NV.
According to Klimkin, the proposal voiced by French President Emmanuel Macron goes beyond simply saving face for Putin.
“Macron said even more: “Let’s not humiliate Putin.” And this really goes further than saving face. It’s one thing to “throw a bone”, and another to get out of this situation so that the Russian regime does not suffer fundamental losses. This is fundamental contradicts the American position,” Klimkin said.
According to the diplomat, now Europe is thinking about what kind of Russia it will have to deal with in the future.
“Old Europe in different ways, but the Italians, the French, especially the Germans, began to look at these processes and think: “What next, how will we come to a new normality with Russia?” They want to come to a new normality. The second question is: what “If Ukraine and the West win? First of all, Ukraine. What will happen to Russia then? Will there be a total mess and destabilization? They are afraid of this, because they don’t know if this will continue to be a problem for their security,” Klimkin said
The diplomat also noted that Ukraine will have to work for the future on many issues.
“Third, this is a problem from Ukraine’s point of view: how to deal with Ukraine? We used to be considered rather weak, corrupt. Yes, we will need to work on many things for the future, as part of the accession process to the European Union, but at the same time we This is an explosive mixture for many, in fact, both weak and strong,” the diplomat said.
Klimkin also noted that the presence of Ukraine in Europe will make many nervous.
“We are moving into Europe, and then what to do? Previously, the old Europe always “ordered music” from the EU, and the France-Germany axis was the main one. And if Ukraine is there; if it has special relations with Poland; if central Europe is reborn, as a geopolitical player (and I see real chances for this, conditionally, in five years, or maybe earlier), then the French ask themselves the question: what should we do? To defeat Putin “by no means, but to find a certain balance. The only problem is that the balance will not be maintained. Many people in France or Germany do not understand this,” Klimkin said.
Klimkin and the war in Ukraine:
On May 18, 2022, Klimkin announced that the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO is a blow in the stomach for Putin.
On April 28, 2022, Klimkin announced that by inflating the situation in Transnistria, Russia is preparing a new springboard for an attack on southern Ukraine. The Kremlin will probably try to land troops there and carry out terrorist attacks.
