DR – The new Du Quartier Montplaisir sports complex in service at the start of the school year.

The former Haras ice rink and the Montplaisir multisport complex are soon to complete their renovation work

The city of Angers is equipping itself with new sports facilities in the center and in the Montplaisir district. Their commissioning scheduled for the start of the school year, these new buildings will meet the equipment needs of sports clubs and schools in the city.

The renovation of the Montplaisir complex

It is within the framework of the New National Urban Renewal Program (NPNRU) that the Montplaisir district was selected by the National Agency for Urban Renovation (ANRU) as a priority district. Close to the future tramway line, the existing complex has been renovated and enlarged, increasing from 1400m² to 7200m² of usable area, making it the second largest sports center in Angers after Jean Bouin. The building has therefore benefited from the creation of a new table tennis hall, two dance halls, two dojos, a boxing hall, an equipped weight room as well as the renovation of the initial multisport hall (handball, basketball) can now accommodate 1,000 people in the stands.

A multi-sport venue conducive to diversity

The new structure will house about fifteen sports associations such as Les Loups Tennis de table la Vaillante, an influence for the district. New sports will be practiced there, such as judo and boxing. This complex promises a place of fulfillment and diversity, due to the plurality of activities offered and the composition of the building, made so as to have a vision of all the sports practiced. School sports will also be practiced there.

A project that wants to be clean.

For a total cost of 12.8 million euros, the complex enables carbon blocking, ie the amount of carbon absorbed by the wood used will not be released into the air. In addition, the building benefits from district heating in the Montplaisir district, powered by wood from hedge trimming. In short, it will be 80% powered by green energy.

From the former Haras ice rink to the handball complex.

DR – The former Haras ice rink will open its doors in September.

After two years of work, the former ice rink of the Dukes of Angers has been completely redesigned to make way for a 4260 m² handball sports complex, in order to accommodate schools in the city center and the Angers SCO Handball club. The opening of the complex is scheduled for September 2022. It is divided into two rooms: the first intended for receptions and the various sports activities of schools and the second intended for club matches and training, which can accommodate 1,200 people in bleachers. It will house the living quarters of the team (changing rooms, preparation room, meeting, and medical space).

A complex that meets ecological challenges.

The old complex dating from 1984 no longer responded to energy issues, being very little insulated while it housed an ice track. Today it benefits from thermal and sound insulation to limit noise during matches. The structure has been reinforced and the old wooden beams will be reused on the extension site of the Emmaüs store in St-Jean-de-Linières. The green spaces have been redesigned to promote soil permeability to rain, while keeping the trees already present.
