Royal Enfield may not be known for making sportbikes but this modified version of the Continental GT 650 suggests the experiment would be a good idea. The uniquely modified avatar of a sporty Continental GT650 was shown at the Busted Knuckled Build-Off competition held in Australia. Named the No. 55 GT 650 Production Racer, the Royale Motorcycles-designed bike has undergone a complete overhaul, including a new exhaust.

The round headlight of the original Continental GT 650 gives way to a new fiberglass fairing that transforms the retro motorcycle into a sporty machine, ready to take on the track. However, the modification is not limited to minor cosmetic updates.

The subframe of this modified version of the Continental GT also gets a facelift and is fitted with a fully adjustable gold USD fork, borrowed from the Triumph Daytona. The rear suspension featured a fully adjustable monoshock hooked up to an old swingarm borrowed from Honda.

The modified bike is mounted on 17-inch alloys fitted with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC tires sourced from the British supersport championship. The standard Continental GT is fitted with 18-inch units at both ends.

The stock bike’s braking duties are handled by a single 320mm disc mated to a four-piston ByBre caliper at the front, and a single 240mm disc brake at the rear. This modified version, however, uses a double front disc and a single rear disc from Nissin.

Although the bike is fitted with the same 650cc twin-cylinder engine as the original bike, its performance should be improved by minor modifications. On the original Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, the 650cc engine is tuned to deliver a peak power of 47PS and peak torque of 52Nm. The restricted exhaust has been replaced with a free-flow unit on this model from Continental GT.

Launched in 2017, the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 comes with a starting price of Rs 3.04 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
