The wolf house reopened its doors on April 23 for the start of the Easter holidays, with two new owners at its head. Matthis Chague and Olivier Chabrel, for a new start.
Matthis Chague and Olivier Chabrel met while playing sports, and initially had plans to set up sports structures in Ariège. Their choice ultimately fell on a completely different project: taking over the Maison des loups, in Orlu.
“I knew the former managers, I was friends with their children. I’ve been coming here since I was little and I’ve often given them a hand during the big season,” says Matthis. Too young when the establishment was first put up for sale, the 25-year-old young man did everything to be able to take over the business.
“I called Olivier and told him that I had a project to propose to him. I knew that we were complementary, that we could get along well and make a business work,” he explains. “We both got into the project, and little by little we moved forward to find ourselves opening the doors on April 23. »
The vision tunnel as a novelty
The new manager of the Maison des loups is delighted with the reopening of the vision tunnel, the park’s flagship attraction, which has been closed for three years. It is therefore the only “novelty” to which visitors will be entitled this year. Indeed, for Matthis and Olivier, the priority is to maintain their good reputation.
“We have taken over a business that is doing well, which welcomes between 35,000 and 40,000 visitors a year. We had to adapt and we have a lot of things to manage: the park, the restaurant, the souvenir shop…” confides Matthis.
The two novices had the opportunity to train quickly during the sale of the park, with the help of the professionals who were leaving. Not having the capacity to present the animals to the public, they had to call on a wolf capacity, who already has experience with these animals.
In addition to this, the wolves benefit from three trainers, as well as trainee trainers who can come and help from time to time. “A nice little team, with old people who have stayed, and new recruits”, specifies the manager.

The park welcomes the birth of wolf cubs, the first since 2018. “It is something that proves that the wolves are doing well. If they reproduce, the young grow up and the parents take care of them, that means that there is a balance within the pack and that proves that all is well, says Matthis.
For the moment they haven’t come out of their den yet but soon we will be able to present them to the public, we can’t wait. The new owners say they have no plans in mind for this year other than trying to maintain what has been done before, but are beginning to think about future plans for the years to come, including adding a a touch of novelty to the park while keeping its original spirit which is close to their hearts.
